On September 30, 2009, John Parisella was appointed Québec's Delegate General in New York, the province's top ranking position in the U.S., responsible for eight states including the Mid-Atlantic and Washington, D.C.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Parisella was the president of Montréal-based BCP and BCP Consultants, firms that specialize in communications, advertising, marketing, strategic planning and public relations. From 2005 to 2008, he served as special advisor to the president of Concordia University and head of the communications department.
A respected communicator and educator, Mr. Parisella is a frequent commentator on several media outlets on wide ranging issues, in particular U.S. politics. His recent books on the presidential campaigns of 2004 and 2008, “Élections Made in USA,” were co-authored with Donald Cuccioletta and published for the Québec French–speaking market. He was chief of staff to Québec premiers Robert Bourassa and Daniel Johnson from 1989 to 1994. Prior to those assignments, he served as director general of the Québec Liberal Party. In 2008, Mr. Parisella returned to public service when he was appointed by the Québec government as chief negotiator in a land claim by the Mohawks of Kahnawake.
Mr. Parisella has taught at Concordia University (2006-2009) and served on their board of governors from 1996-2005. In addition, he has had an extensive volunteer profile by serving on numerous boards in the cultural, educational, health, community and economic sectors.
Prior to his appointment as delegate general, he was co-president of the Foundation For Tolerance and first vice president of the Greater Montreal Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a member of the board of governors at CORIM (Montréal Council on Foreign Relations), and is associated with the Chaire Raoul-Dandurand, a center for U.S. studies, at Université du Québec à Montréal.
A graduate of McGill University in political science, education, and management, and Concordia University in political science, Mr. Parisella holds a certificate in senior government management from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
