Québec also supplies clean and renewable power to supplement New York State's energy needs, particularly in peak demand periods. Thanks to highly innovative firms such as IBM, a « microelectronics corridor » stretches from Bromont, Québec to East Fishkill, New York, and provides high-skilled jobs to workers on both sides of the border.
Four Québec - New York Economic Summits have taken place since 2002, providing a forum for cross-border business-to-business contacts and for the signing of nearly 20 memoranda of understanding and collaboration agreements. The next Summit will probably take place in 2011, in New York State.
Our economies are highly integrated and our bilateral trade creates jobs in New York State and Québec. We need to preserve that relationship, and to support the efforts made by both our federal governments to ensure that our borders remain safe and secure for trade and travel.
